An ill-natured, mice-fearing aunt proves no contest for the retired General Marchmouse and his “glowing” army, although the children are convinced their fairy-of-sorts (aka Nutmeg) single-handedly took care of their predicament. Thus begins adventure #1, a humorous prelude to the classroom chaos and pirate parley to come. A pleasure to experience the characters’ kindness, courage, and resourcefulness, especially when rescuing their own. Beautiful illustrations throughout.
